Posted: Mon Dec 03, 2007 5:38 pm (J. Chambers) Post subject: Incident on Ramor

Over the weekend some anglers spotted some non nationals using hand nets to catch coarse fish in the harbour at Virginia. They phoned the E.R.F.B. and an inspector was soon on the scene. He found around 40 hybrids in buckets. Gear was confiscated and on the spot fines issued (first offence). So far this year the board have issued 40 on the spot fines for offences committed on Ramor alone !!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Incidents warranting the summoning of the fishery board occurred again on Lough Ramor in Virginia, Co Cavan last weekend, when more foreign nationals were seen taking fish of all sizes from the lake and transferring them to a van which was parked in an area away from the lake and out of sight. The erfb were very quick to get on this and several fines were handed out.

Sat 13th Feb.

Illegal net found by a vigilant carp angler on Ballinafid Co Westmeath. The net was handed over to Dearmot Broughan of the fisheries board.

Mon 15th Feb

After a tip off by carp anglers, two on the spot fines were issued to foreign poachers who were fishing without a licence at Ballinafid lake. These two individuals were the prime suspects for setting the illegal net on the 13th Feb at the same lake.
