Heh Heh!!
I was also told Pallas - and Acalla, shore only, no boats, so no tubes either - which is fair enough.
The other I don't know yet. I'll let you know soon as I do.

I would have no problem what so ever with anglers using float tubes but one thing that does annoy me bigtime is the use of inflatable boats. In quite alot of the reported poaching cases in newspapers these boats seem to be a common denominator. They are a common site in summertime when Aldi/Lidl stock them.

Its only a matter of time before one of these cheap boats springs a leak and tragedy ensues.

I wonder would there be any point in bringing this to the attention of the Fisheries Board?

They are a scurge!

Fishery officers have already had to risk their own lives rescuing idiots in cheapo inflatable boats.
There is no point in telling them because they aready know. They also know every summer brings a fresh influx of new fools that don't think about water dangers.
It's just a stage of the year for fishery workers.

Hi fta. Might be an idea to get in touch with the italian lads that regularly float tube for pike on our waters. Ive a contact in italy who runs a pike website. Ill pm his details. Your in a minority of pike methods here sadly but hopefully he can drum up some support and emails to support your cause. Cant do via phone. Ill be on laptop tomorrow and pm to you. If your on facebook I can do using friend suggestion. Pm if you are.

Thanks DS.

Latest news:
No bellyboats on Acalla or Pallas, which makes sense seeing as both are shore fishing only.

AND

No bellyboats on OWEL !!!
Stated reason - because it is a boat fishing lake with no shore fishing. (Didn't people used to fish from the railway shore in the past? Anyway, I can't see the logic in that one.

The Shannon Board do seem to have clarified what allowed and not allowed on their "managed waters".
Owel - No shore angling, boat only. Both pike and coarse fishing allowed using all legal methods. Only 1 rod.
Ennell - No coarse angling allowed. Only 1 rod. Pike angling by all legal methods allowed
Sheelin - Fly and spinning artificial lures the only legal angling methods and angling only allowed during the trout season. They havent actually banned coarse fishing but you cant use normal coarse angling baits.
I would really like to know the reasons behind some of those rules. for instance , why cant you pike fish Owel from the shore ?
