June Kingspan Qualifier
The June qualifier of the 2011/12 Kingspan National Pike Championships was held today. Todays weather forecast was for high winds and continuous rain. They got it right and the 77 anglers who competed got soaked. If that wasnt bad enough fishing was very poor with 34 anglers blanking and lots more only catching one. This was a really poor result.
One bright point was the capture of a specimen pike of 24-11 by Durrows Ian Drennan. The pike was blind in one eye and fell to a ledgered lamprey. Results were calculated in the Bridge House where lots of cocktail sausages, chicken nuggets and chips were laid on.
The top 5 anglers who go through to the Finals are:
1st Ian Drennan (Durrow) 2nd Paul Reynolds (Drogheda) 3rd Robbie McShane (Ardee) 4th Sam Lawlor (Belfast) 5th Ian Mitchell (Newbridge) Ians 24-11
