Location

Driving towards Carrick on Shannon on the N4 take the first turning on your left after passing through the village of Dromod, after a short drive through the forestry land you will come to a signpost on your left  pointing the way to Derrycarne Wood.

Overview

This state forestry  land has been developed  as a local amenity with car parks, picnic area's and a thirty peg angling venue. Lough Boderg is extremely wide at this point and has a very rocky shore line, the pegs, located on the East bank, are wide open to the prevailing westerly winds which can create very choppy water conditions.
All of the pegs have an average depth of ten feet from three to four rod lengths out, the bottom is clean and snag free but you will have to keep your rod high when playing fish otherwise they will run straight into the rocky ledge.. Though not as prolific as in previous years, this noted Bream fishery is still capable of producing that "ton" from any of it's pegs, given the right conditions and the right angler!

Methods

This is an obvious feeder water, but I have had some very good catches of Roach and Hybrids when fishing the waggler over the ledge, remember when feeding that Boderg is very much a part of the Shannon River system, as such it has a gentle flow from right to left.

Baits

Casters and Reds both work well, although worm is not always successful early season, it is always worth a try, just tip it with caster or sweet corn, you never know, it can sometimes be the answer if you are finding bites difficult to hit, fish tend to hold onto the worm just that bit longer..

Footnote

This venue has suffered over recent years with serious litter problems, protect your fishing and don't add to the problem. Please ensure that you take all of your litter away with you.
Thank you….

Special note from the Webmaster..

This venue also has a fair head of pike, please return all fish to the water carefully,  don't add to the demise of our fish, which in the main is caused by "so called anglers" who troll from hired cruisers on this water and kill all they catch!!
