Location
Loughs
Cloonahee and Nablahy are part of the Hill Street system of lakes, Hill
Street is well sign posted throughout the Roscommon area., you should
have no problems in finding these Loughs
Overview
These are both exceptionally good Bream waters, I am linking these
two waters together for, not only are they in the same locality, they
both share identical fishing characteristics and form part of a fisheries
development program which has now been completed and will accommodate
over one hundred anglers, access and parking is good.
Methods
Both of these Loughs are eighteen feet plus deep in most areas,
if you are after the Bream then feeder is the usual method, for
the Roach and Rudd etc you should catch well closer in using the pole
or float fishing a slider. These waters respond well to pre-baiting if
you see signs that your chosen peg has been recently fished, then fish
without pre-baiting, hook size fourteen's or sixteen's baited with red
maggots, casters or a combination of both will produce bites, always be
prepared to change up to a larger size should the Bream move in!
For the match men… disturbance at the start of a match, is unavoidable
when fishing from platforms. At the off, put some bait in as far out as
you can, this is on the assumption that some decent fish will move
into your swim during the later stages of the match, for the first few
hours the only chance of catching may be to come inside and try for the
small Roach, Perch etc, you may pick up a few in mid water, but you will
only be looking at a few pounds of bits, it's either that or sitting it
out at extreme range in the hope that the fish will move back in, anyone
on pegs one or forty should be on a flyer!
Remember that this venue is, in the main, eighteen feet plus deep,
you will have to make up a fairly heavy mix to get to the bottom before
it starts to break up. Mix in Casters, Hemp and a few grains of Sweet
Corn to keep the fish interested, if you are fishing mid water you will
need a lighter mix in order to achieve a cloud effect from the surface
to a few feet down.
Hook Baits
Red Maggots, Casters, Sweet Corn or Worms.. If you are on maggots
or worms eels can be quite a problem from June onwards. ( note from webmaster.
there used to be a bait, years ago.. called bread.. wonder what
ever happened to it!! ROFL)
