KINGSPAN NATIONAL PIKE CHAMPIONSHIP 2003-04



The heats of the Kingspan National Pike Championship have been selected for the coming season as follows.

Heat 1 - 27th April, Grand Canal, Cloghan, Co. Offaly
Heat 2 - 11th May, Lough Egish, Co. Monaghan
Heat 3 - 8th June, River Barrow, Athy
Heat 4 - 6th July, Camlough Lake, Co. Armagh
Heat 5 - 10th August, Clae Lake, Keady, Co Armagh
Heat 6 - 7th September, Lough McNean, Blacklion, Co Cavan
Heat 7 - 5th October, Clare River, Clonboo, Co Galway
Heat 8 - 2nd November, Lough Gowna, Co Longford
Heat 9 - 7th December, Royal canal, Mullingar
Heat 10 - 3rd January 04, Lough Sillan, Shercock, Co Cavan
Heat 11 - 1st February 04, Stewards Heat, venue to be decided



Heat 1- Grand Canal, Cloghan, Co. Offaly.
56 anglers landed 71 pike. Gary Quinn`s pike of 12-10 was the best fish.
The top 5 anglers who qualified to fish in next year`s final were;

3rd. Tom Crickley (Drogheda) 3 pike 10-07

Heat 2 - Lough Egish, Co. Monaghan
89 anglers landed 160 pike. Maura Martins pike of 12-12 was the best fish followed by 12-02 by Mick Woodlock and 11-14 by Benny Markey.
The top 5 anglers who qualified to fish in next year`s final were;
1st. Frank Leonard (Drogheda) 7 pike 34-07
2nd. John Marshall (Keady) 8 pike 20-05
3rd. Derek Mohan (Dom's) 6 pike 19-08

5th. Robbie Mc Shane (Ardee) 8 pike 19-05



Heat 3 - 8th June, River Barrow, Athy
49 anglers landed 81 pike. Newbridge angler Eugene Mc Cabe's pike of 18lb was the best fish.
The top 5 anglers who qualified to fish in next year`s final were;
1st. Alan Mulcahy, Limerick, 27-10
2nd.

3rd. Michael Padden, Ballina, 18-00

Heat 4 - 6th July, Camlough Lake, Co. Armagh
48 anglers landed 50 pike. The heaviest pike was caught by Breton Sweeney at 12lb 12oz.

The top 5 anglers who qualified to fish in next year`s final were;
1st Brenton Sweeney, 2 fish, 15.56lb
2nd Pat Gorman, 4 fish, 12.5lb

Heat 5 - 10th August, Clae Lake, Keady, Co Armagh
The heaviest pike was caught by Anthony Muldoon at 8.08lbs.

The heaviest pike was caught by Jihn Crudden at 11lb 5oz
The top 5 anglers who qualified to fish in next year`s final were;

Heat 8 - 2nd November, Lough Gowna, Co Longford
The heaviest pike was caught by Willie Heasley at 13lb .5oz
The top 5 anglers who qualified to fish in next year`s final were;
1st Willie Heasley, Duleek, 2 fish, 14lb 10oz
2nd Karl Traynor, Camlough, 2 fish, 14lb 7oz
3rd Conor Muldoon, Belfast Individuals, 3 fish, 12lb 12oz

Heat 9 - 7th December, Royal canal, Mullingar
The 9th heat of the Kingspan National Pike Championship was held on the Royal Canal at Mullingar, Co Westmeath, on Sunday 7th December. It was hard going for the 55 anglers who turned up to fish the competition with only 10 pike were landed.
The top 5 anglers were:-
1st. Jimmy Thompson, Dublin Pike Anglers 1 pike 7-04
2nd. Mickey Prenter, Belfast Individuals 1 pike 7-03
3rd. Pat Cooper, Dublin Pike Anglers 1 pike 2-11
4th. Larry Kelly, Piking Pirates A.C. 1 pike 2-00
5th. Jerome Fisher, Keady Pike Anglers 1 pike 1-13



Heat 10
- 3rd January 04, Lough Sillan, Shercock, Co Cavan

63 anglers attended yesterdays 10th and last open qualifier on Lough Sillan.Fishing was pretty good by Sillan standards with 50 pike to 21-02 being landed.There were 5 doubles with the winner catching two.
The top 5 anglers who qualified to fish in next year`s final were;
1st. Jimmy Farrell (Dublin Pike Anglers Club) 2 pike 31-10
2nd. Thommy Sheridan (North Longford A.C.) 3 pike 15-02
3rd. Sean Markey (Cootehill A.C.) 3 pike 14-06
4th. Gerry Keenan (Ardee Pike Anglers Club) 3 pike 13-05
5th. Maura Martin (Ardee Pike Anglers Club) 1 pike 12-05


Heat 11 - 1st February 04, Stewards Heat, Hollybank lake
Seventeen anglers out of 21 qualifying stewards turned up and landed 41 pike to 12lbs.The Stewards qualifier was for those who entered at least 4 qualifying competitions of the 2003/04 Kingspan National Pike Championships and acted as stewards and weighed at least 4 pike.
The top 5 anglers who qualified to fish in next year`s final were;
1st. Raymond Leonard (Keady) 7 pike 25-09
2nd. Alan Heasley (Duleek) 6 pike 17-04
3rd. David Dennis (Drogheda) 5 pike 15-14
4th. Joe Coleman (Donore) 4 pike 12-13
5th. Brendan McCabe (Newry) 1 pike 12-00


The Final will be held on the first saturday in april in the Monaghan area.




All Ireland Junior Inter Club Team Championship


The Junior Inter Club Championship was run in conjunction with the Pure Fishing Final on
21st September on the Town lake, Arva, Co. Cavan. A total of 13 teams of 4 competed.

The results are as follows:

Date set for 23rd November, Ballyconnell, Co Cavan

The competition was held on the Woodford River with the check in taking place at the "George Mitchell" bridge on the main Belturbet to Enniskillen road.

NOTE:

The IFPAC runs The "Kingspan" National Pike Championship each year, the All-Ireland inter-club championship, the "Pure-Fishing" National Junior pike championship and the All-Ireland junior inter-club championship.

Anglers are reminded of the following competition rules:
An angler must be a member of a fully paid up affiliated club.
An angler may be refused entry to the competition without reason being given.
Anglers who act as stewards at heats will be eligible to enter a special heat for stewards provided that the person has been a steward at 4 heats and has weighed a minimum of 4 fish.
Fish can NOT be weighed by the gills. It is the responsibility of the angler to ensure this does not happen.
A maximum of two fish in a keep sack.
Objections must be made within an hour unless otherwise stated at the check-in.
