Location

Take the Kilglass road out of Roosky, after about eight miles you will come to a place called Scramoge which is at the junction of the Longford/Strokestown road, turn right and immediately left onto the Lanesboro road, some six miles further on you will come to a very small village called Cloontuskert, after the very last house you will see the sign to Kilnacarrow, turn left and follow the road bearing left all the way down a stone track which ends up in a small car park on the edge of a bog, in the distance you will see a railway bridge which crosses the Shannon, access is over two stiles and a large field, fairly flat but a long walk

Overview

The river here has a gravel bank that will accommodate about twelve anglers this is the main spawning area for the Bream from Lough Ree, in the good old days, when the river was sparkling clean, you could stand on the bridge at Lanesboro and see shoal after shoal of fish moving up river, the actual spawning ground is just fifty yards above the bridge therefore it follows that the closer you are to the bridge the better your chances of the magical ton.

Methods

The river is not very wide at the bridge and only about ten feet deep, put a feeder out just past the middle, the cruisers pass under the furthest arch so keep away from the obvious disturbance this will bring, The Bream can be caught off of the lower pegs when the fish are initially moving through, if there are no Bream in front of you try the waggler, good catches of Roach and Hybrids can be made especially where the river widens.

Hook Baits

Ring the changes until you find the preferences, it could be Worm, Casters or any combination, for the waggler try caster and red on 16s or 14s.

Summary

One of the ton up venues on the right day.
