Junior Pike Championships
2004
In line with the Federations commitment to the promotion and development
of youth angling, the following dates and locations have been chosen
for this year's junior championship.
12th April, North Longford
18th April, Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo
23rd May, Tullamore, Co. Offaly
30th May, Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan
11th July, Newbridge, Co. Kildare
25th July, Dun-na-ri, Kingscourt, Co. Cavan
1st August, Keady, Co. Armagh
22nd August, Rossmore, Co. Monaghan
19th September - Final - Venue to be announced
Heat 1 - 12th April, North Longford
The North Longford Angling Club hosted the first heat of the All-Ireland
Junior Pike Championship on Gortamone Lake near Carrigallen, Co.
Leitrim on 12th April. A total of 30 juniors participated in the
event and all received "goodie bags", which contained fishing tackle,
courtesy of Millard Bros (Milbro). 12 juniors fished in the under
18 section and 18 juniors fished in the under 13 section. North
Longford Angling Club provided refreshments and a barbeque for all
present after the match. Each junior, who caught a fish, qualified
to fish in the final.
The top five in each section, are as follows:
Under18's
1. Ben Cusworth 3 fish 13.3
2. Philip Kavanagh 5 fish 11.13
3. Damien Simpson 2 fish 8.05
4. Craig Dalton 2 fish 5.07
5. Paul Mulligan 2 fish 4.12
Under13's

A total of 20 juniors caught fish and qualified to fish the final
in September. The North Longford Angling Club sponsored trophies
for the top three anglers in each section. A total of 33 fish were
weighed and released. The best fish of the day was caught by Ben
Cusworth and weighed 11.08.
Heat 2 - 18th April, Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo
Kiltimagh
Angling Club ran the second qualifier on the 18th April. Ten anglers
took part.
Brian Mc Entee qualified for the U13 final in September.
Heat 5- 25th July, Newbridge, Co. Kildare
Newbridge & District Pike Anglers Association ran the fifth qualifier
on 25th July on the River Black, Monasterevin. 11 juniors took part.

Under13's

Under18's
1st Mark Fortune 1 fish for 9lb 3oz
2nd Thomas Hayden 1fish for 5lb 12oz

Heat 7 - 1st August, Keady, Co. Armagh
The results of the seventh qualifier, which took place on Clea Lake
and hosted by the Keady and District Angling Club were as follows:
Under 13's

3rd David Osbourne 3 lb 6 oz
4th Shane Curry 2 lb 7 oz

Under 18's

Heat 8 - 22nd August, Rossmore, Co. Monaghan
9 juniors turned fished the qualifier in persistant rain.

NOTE:
The
IFPAC runs The "Kingspan" National Pike Championship each
year, the All-Ireland inter-club championship, the "Millard
Bros " National Junior pike championship and the All-Ireland
junior inter-club championship.
Anglers are reminded of the following competition rules:
An angler must be a member of a fully paid up affiliated club.
An angler may be refused entry to the competition without reason
being given.
Anglers who act as stewards at heats will be eligible to enter a
special heat for stewards provided that the person has been a steward
at 4 heats and has weighed a minimum of 4 fish.
Fish can NOT be weighed by the gills. It is the responsibility of
the angler to ensure this does not happen.
A
maximum of two fish in a keep sack.
Objections must
be made within an hour unless otherwise stated at the check-in.
