Location
Turn
left at the top of Roosky village, sign posted for Termonbarry, after
approximately seven miles you will come to the junction of the Longford
- Strokestown road, turn left and you will see the bridge, turning immediately
right at the bridge will take you to the locks and weir where there is
ample parking.
Fishery 1
Directly below the locks is a short piece of bank, from which
you can fish directly into the boat channel, here the river is about six
feet deep and the pace is perfect for the waggler. If you like stick float
fishing then walk across the lock to the weir, jutting out in the bay
from the bottom of the weir is a short piece of bank, there are two or
three pegs that can produce terrific catches, especially early on in the
season.
Fishery 2
Cross the bridge and park on the right, down stream is a short
length of bank which is a shallow back water. I can only describe this
stretch as being either brilliant or diabolical!
Unfortunately there are more bad days than good, further downstream the
river opens out into a large bay, this is a good area in which to locate
the Bream, but be warned this area is shallow with quite a fast flow from
the sluices and the bottom is rocky in places.. This is a very good spot
for big Trout.
Methods
All methods work well depending on where you are fishing, Waggler,
Stick Float, or Feeder.
Baits
Reds, whites, Caster, Worms and Corn all work well on the day.
